I have a 500A 480V 3ph MCC. I need to know what a typical heat loss for this size MCC might be expected. Currently there are 16 buckets installed, which range from 1HP to 100HP.

Thanks for your help.

62,

I looked this up but didn't really have any luck. I find that areas where there are electrical efficiency losses (with transformers and motors) there will be calculable heat gain but data for MCCs are not defined.

At the same time I've seen MCC rooms that get hot... I did find via search a study on this, but it was a study proposal. No results were given. If there's a known thumbrule for cooling load versus total MCC horsepower, I'm interested too.

Good post; I'll be checking in. -CB

Rule of Thumb - 500 Watts per section - each section is approximately 20"wide x 20" deep x 84" high.

steven, do you have a source for this, or is it based on your experience? Tx, -CB
