Dear all

I'm a chemical not mechanical engineer...

How can I re-rate a heat exchanger to change its design conditions?

Actually, design temperature s 150ºF but this is the operating temperature of the new service.
See thread 124-195840

What is the original code of construction for this Hx, operating pressure and, is it located in a Jurisdiction that regulates pressure vessels?

The original code is ASME
Operating pressure will be 4.6 barg
The portuguese jurisdiction regulates pressure vessels.

This falls under the definition of a pressure vessel, per ASME Section VIII, Div 1.

I would suggest that you re-rate this vessel under the rules of the National Board Inspection Code, because this vessel was probably registered with the National Board.

Get a copy of the NBIC and review the requirements for re-rating under Alterations. You will need to obtain design calcs to support your re-rate (if you are altering the pressure retaining capacity or lowering the design metal temperature).
