Hi,
I recently requested a quote for a gas / water heat exchanger with a high pressure difference between the shell side and tube side. The design includes a rupture disc to protect the shell side from overpressure (designed in accordance with API 521). One vendor told me he will not provide a quote becuase the use of rupture discs is not a safe solution. He recommended the use of a double tube design (with pressure alert if the inner tube leaks). Perhaps where the tube side product can react unfavourably with the shell side product, or the release of tube side product to atmosphere can cause environmental problems there might be a problem, but I don't see any issues for my design. Is double tube design required for a standard gas / water heat exchanger?
