Dear eng-tips members :

Could you please shine me a light how to calculate the heat of vaporization of the Solved-born acrylic resin ? Is it correct to make all the acrylic monomer and solvent ingredient feed into the flash drum in the aspen plus or other simulation tools, and calculated the heat of vaporization ? Or is any other easy tech tools instead of doing the VSPII test ?

Thank you so much.

"Could you please shine me a light how to calculate the heat of vaporization of the Solved-born acrylic resin? Is it correct to make all the acrylic monomer and solvent ingredient feed into the flash drum in the aspen plus or other simulation tools, and calculated the heat of vaporization?" It is reasonable and customary in calculations involving a "solvent-borne" resin for the heat of vaporization to rely on the solvent and unreacted monomer. Once two or more monomer molecules have joined by polymerization the chances it will vaporize is much, much less.

"Or is any other easy tech tools instead of doing the VSPII test?" Are you after just heat of vaporization data, or are you after rate of reaction data too? If the rate of reaction is not know to an acceptable certainty, the VSPII test is an excellent tool and method to get data on reaction and runaway reaction scenarios which will lead to relief device sizing. In the absence of good rate of reaction data, I do not know of an "easy tech tool" to supply reliable rate of reaction data.

Good luck,

To a ChE, the glass is always full - 1/2 air and 1/2 water.
