I have an Energy Knight 1 ton Heat pump (120 VAC system).
It has been in service since 10/2003 with absolutely no problems.

When asked to run, the compressor will try to start but appears to time out at about 5 seconds. Will auto retry after about 1 minute.

I have tried a "hard start kit" , but no change.

I have checked the external overload, it is ok (but I did not check the overload while attempting to start the compressor).

The capacitor is also ok (60 microfarads).

The fan and case heater circuits are working fine.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Ron

If the compressor is going off on overload and you have tried a hard start kit and the capaciter is good, the compressor is defective. See if the unit has a 5 yr compressor warranty, most do. JMHO
