Heater for 100l oil tank 1

Hi everyone,

I would be really grateful if I could get some information on what kind of a heater I should use for the following tank:
100l pressure vessel - it will be filled wit oil, have nitrogen blanket, be pressurised up to 30 Bar g and heated up to 250-300C. Connection on the tank is a 2" BSP T connection.
I am based in the UK so UK or Europe companies would be preferred but I will be happy with any information.

Fundamentally: Heat in = Heat out + Heat Stored

Do you believe that you have provided sufficient information to expand that fundamental equation to your specific case?
 
I am sorry if I was unclear in my post - what I am looking for are manufacturers of heaters for this sort of tanks. I can't give you any more information about the system or oil being heated for which I really regret.

There are any number of threaded electric immersion heaters which will do this. I don't know the European brands, but Chromalox (Wiegand) and CCI Thermal are big names here in Canada.

2" is a pretty big threaded connection, and oil is prone to leakage especially at the temperatures you're talking about. It's also not all that big a connection for an immersion heater with a low enough watt density for what I presume is unmixed oil service. Your "tank" is clearly a pressure vessel for the pad pressure you intend to use. Why were threads specified? What thread sealant did you intend to use for this temperature? These thoughts should also be on your mind.

Band heaters are also an option.

I agree with moltenmetal. I would rethink the use of threaded elements. Also are you looking for a single 2" element? What is your max heater length? Depending on the viscosity of the oil in the "cool" condition, I would expect the watt density to be around 5-20watt/in^2. Unless you have a long element or long heat up time, you may have trouble fitting your heating through a single 2" connection.
 
How about a steam supplied external tank heater ?

Many process plants favor these, especially in fouling service, or where there mare be a tendency for "coking" of the media to be heated. The maintenance guys like these much better.

By external heater, I mean a small recirc pump circulating through a heat exchanger located outside of the tank/vessel. Any problems can be dealt with easily. If the pump has a VFD, the media temperature can be controlled quite closely.
