Hello all,

I am looking for a gizmo to remove pumps on chains from wet wells.

To use the gizmo, you put the gizmo on the end of the cable to your hoist or winch. Then put the chain through the gizmo and let it slide down the chain to anywhere you like on the chain and reel up your cable and the gizmo grabs the chain and up it comes.
When you are done servicing the pump, you reel the cable down with the gizmo attached to the chain to the desired level and give the gizmo a shake. The gizmo disengages from the chain and you reel it up.

I have seen one once and the only ID on it was "made in China". Some folks have seen them but do not know where to purchase one. I have looked in many catalogs with no luck.
I am hoping someone out there can give me some info.

It is easier to increase the length of the chain. Use a hook at the top of the wetwell to hold the extra chain. Then all you have to do is grab the chain and attach to the winch and turn on the winch.

I have a similar problem: A floating buoy, connected to an bottom anchor by chain. I wish to add a lateral chain as close to the anchor as possible, by sliding down a "gizmo" that will grab the chain as close to the anchor as possible, when pulled laterally, or vertically.
I think I have an idea for it, but are there any products out there already?

Well since you won't use my first suggestion, here goes.What you are looking for is a chinese finger trap arrangement. I would suggets you use a pipe placed on the chain. Attached to the Bottom of the pipe, you attach another chain. When the load is taken up by the chain, the pipe rotates and locks onto the first chain. But you have to put this on and leave it. Also you are investing in lots of chain. It stills seems that just using a lifting hook on a cable hoist would be just as easy and simpler to make.

Dicksewerrat is absolutely correct. Why complicate things and buy a product which may not comply with OSHA regulations for lifting. Extend the existing lifting chain and secure it to a hook or something for ease of access, and call it a day. This would be my advice.
