Hello,

We are manufacturing dc motors... and we are planning to buy a new FEA software to do limited stress & thermal analysis on the endframes.
We use SolidWorks for modeling. So kindly guide me in choosing a proper FEA tool that's compatable with SolidWorks.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I have used CosmosWorks for years and it is good for some types of work. I have never used it for magnetic or cooling project just structural.

Question to the previous posting. Why not?

We are a small company that designs mechanical products with hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical components for movement and control. To date these projects haven’t required magnetic or cooling analysis. As to Cosmos and structural, the ability to do contact or gap analysis of assemblies can be difficult, but it works good for static analysis.

Suggestion: To perform the thermal analysis for a motor involves the motor body including magnetic circuits, windings, endframes , etc. to be simulated to obtain the thermal grid lines in those items.
