we have no catia. first boeing sent us .model. we could not read. then sent us .stp. we can see it on solidworks and "measure" it. but we can not see the tolerance and Ra or any "notation" which "were lost" during conversion to stp.
is that true and any way around it.
thanks.

If the .model contained drawing sheets, it could be true that information was lost. A .stp file will only bring across geometry, as you figured out.

If you want to get around it... get Catia. If you want to work for Boeing, get Catia.

dho,
you will need some sort of Dassault product to do this work as Albigger points out. DMU navigator if you only need to read GD&T info embedded in the MBD model. If you need to 3-5 axis cut an item then you will need a PLM express level license to at the very least perform the DPD checks in Boeing process procedures.

(strange enough that solidworks is Dassault product.) it is just a T-fitting. hardly to justify $30,000+ a Catia seat. seems i hit a dead end.

Ask Boeing to send you the drawings in *.dwg or *.dxf formats. That shouldn't be an issue for them.

Off-topic: Are they still using V4?

By Dassault product I meant Catia, specifically V5. Their DPD process states "translation from native format". A DN1 viewer license is $5,550. Our toolmakers and project managers use these to view our tool designs and Aerospace work. This license does not translate, just view, section, measure, digital mock up and a few other things. Alternatively you can find a design house to output the T-fitting to a 3DXML file. This is a free viewer to see the GD&T information but you will have limited functionality. Another option of the design house is 3D Live. This again is a free viewer but with sectioning, measure, GD&T, creating annotations,... The design house will need 3D Composer to create this format for you.

I have not seen a V4 Boeing job for a couple of years now but if the refurbish an older plane the V4 model will make its way through the system.

Hi,

@ TibiX : Yes , not all CATIA files for older aircraft's were converted to v5...is same for Airbus...A380 is still in v4 (and we are talking about a very modern aircraft...).

And I believe it will take very long time to switch on v6...

Fernando
