While I havent seen this message yet in regards to design tables, a message like this from an OLE operation can mean that the server application is in need of user interaction.

This could be something like a dialog box is popped up in the application, or a worksheet is re-calculating, or ...??

dutch7777,
Yes, I have gotten this message several times. When I have Excel open, my Excel BOM cannot be inserted. Once I close Excel then SolidWorks allows inserting my BOM.

I've also had frozen Excel. It was allways related to the need of rebuilding the SW part/assembly or to the need of closing some information window popped by SW.

Regards

Is this because of the security level on Excel? It may be waiting for permission to run macros.

If you have Excel open and have the curser in a cell and switch to SolidWorks you will have problems. It seems if you have several Excel files open even without the curser in a cell there can be stability problems. Some time you can have more than one Excel running, then use the task manager to kill one or both, then restart Excel with no files or work sheets open.

Well, thanks to all for the help but no one really hit the nail on the head...Here's what I'm experiencing..........
A parts explosion drawing with one view only and a excel
bom...data on server, excel local....no other apps open...edit the bom, can sort ok but if I try to resequence the item no's it kicks a message "other program busy....
excel...??? dunno, but it starts the start menu....now get
this...if I pull the bom off the sheet/view (1) completely
it'll work just fine...now the kicker...it works on some
drw's and not others...at least I got it to work tho..

Thanks again to all for the tips...gremlins....arrrrgh

I have had some problems with Excel, and thought my prior post solved them. In the last 3 days BOM’s have caused sever crashing of Excel and SolidWorks. The tool bars disappear and even after closing SolidWorks, I must kill it in the task manager. I’ve rebooted thinking it would help, but no change. I’ve only had the server busy window once out of about 10 crashes.
I think some of it is from trying to edit the BOM from older formats. The only solution so far is to delete the old BOM and start the BOM process over.
The other possibility is some new Windows update is causing the problem. I didn’t seem to have as many problems until after the last security updates from Microsoft.

I use Design tables in every (thousands) of Solid Works file we have. One trick that may be useful is to open Excel first thing in the morning before you do anything. Excel tends to hang sometimes, if it does hang re-boot and try again. Once you are getting a good start up with Excel, then proceed and open Solid Works and you should have less trouble. One last tip, disable any Add-ins that in Excel that you dont need. Hope this helps, someone.
