Hi all,

I'm trying to identify an open web steel joist in an existing building in Hyattsville, MD.

Information I do have is that the building was constructed in 1964 and is a warehouse/light industrial use, the joist is 22" deep span approximately 40', and are spaced 6'-8" apart. The cords are shaped like hat channels and the web member is a continuous rod approximately 1" in diameter. The very little structural info we have stated the joist is a 22K10 but this is extremely unlikely as the dates do not match up.

I've contacted SJI and they don't have a solid idea of the type of joist it may be, they pointed me in the direction of a USS AmBridge joist but do not have any record of a 22" deep joist. If someone can help me identify the shape, and help me find the section properties, so I can analyze the joist. I have attached a picture of the joist for reference. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if this was the manufacturer for sure, or if other companies were also making this shape.

Thank you!

These look/feel like some joists I previously found.
The big difference between my joists and yours is that your bottom chord is bent to become the first diagonal member on each end. My bottom chord ended and had a rod for the first diagonal.

See attached from Armco. Maybe it`ll help.

And one more from Structure Magazine. Credit to the great SlideRuleEra

Thank you Once20036 for the information :)! The Structural Magazine was a good read and the Armco. gave some great information as well!
