Hi,

I'm trying to import a solidworks file to Visual Nastran4D. I have a part and assembly file of the 3d model designed in SW2008. There are many ways to import a file to visual Nastran 4d like IGES, STEP files. The IGES file convert the assembly model to single part. And STEP file converts model to individual part. In STEP file converting from Solidworks it lost all the constraints.

I tried to save my assembly file into a step and IGES file but there is no step or IGES file to be found. Why is that?

I tried to import the assembly file directly to visual Nastran 4D but this doesn't work. I print screen the error I received in Nastran 4D. (see attachment)

I tried a Parasolid file and I lost some of the components when imported into Nastran 4D. Why is that?

I need to try a step file and IGES.

Can anyone help me with my problem, please?

Thank You,

Hi kevin,
sorry about my delay in response,
but if you still with that error! lesson,
sometimes VN can't recognize your parts becouse of you use some featurs such as Revolve, Pattern or some surfaces that thay puts VN to problems in imprting, try don't use this features in your designs how it possible,
as you wrote you use SW2008, and you dosn't talk about your VN Version, but i remmember the last versions of VN was 2004, and msc wouldn't improve it in last 4 years ago, so this is another problem that cause to this errors, But if you want to do this transferring without this errors i suggest you try to save your machine as step format and then reassemble it in solid2004 then export them directly to VN ( via VN Link that placed in SW menu bar, in SW2008 it dosnt work), i know this method is non reasonable & hard to do; but by this way you can export whole assems with its mates that you apply them in your machine, so try bother to do that, its worth while, make attention to avoid the featurs that i wrote above.
"can you tell me what versions of VN you use for this job?"
Good lock,

Also try binery type files like *.Xt or *.Xb
maybe fix this errors!
