Hello,
I'm a beginner in ABAQUS and I am modeling a composite cube block with spherical particle and spherical interphase around particle. I can simplify two spheres to two cubes. But problem is I do not know how to model a cube inside a cube. When I assembled three parts, they can get 'separated' during simulation. I cannot model all 3 cubes as a single part. If I do boolean, the innermost geometry gets deleted. Importantly, I also want to make different sets for different parts. Any idea how to achieve this in ABAQUS?

First things first: If you are beginner, you must go through, at least, some sections of the Getting Started with Abaqus: Interactive Edition manual before you start playing with your own specific problem.

Now, why do you need to model a cube within a cube? Are you trying to model two different materials? If yes, then you do not need to do this. You just need to assign different materials to each set of elements.

Are you new to this forum? If so, please read these FAQ:

Hello IceBreakerSours, thanks for your comments. I am not that beginner for abaqus to read getting started. I know some things, but I am beginner in sense that I do not have extensive abaqus experience. However I can model simple geometries and can do static elastic analysis with ABAQUS/CAE.

Now the question of cube inside cube. As I wrote in my post, I am trying to model particle inclusion and interphase in a composite material. I am taking matrix as a cube and particle as a small cube at the center of matrix cube. Interphase layer will be another cube at the center of matrix cube but bit bigger than particle cube. Matrix, interphase, matrix all have different properties. Particulate inclusions in a composite material have to be modeled as 'cube inside cube'.

Any suggestions on how to model this?
