What are some of the resources/books I can use to learn more about rubber molding? I'm trying to understand the process of molding crumb rubber into products, such as bumper plates and mats on a small scale, if possible. It may have to do something with using polyurethane, urthane, or resin as a binder?

I have Brendan Rodger's Rubber Compounding: Chemistry and Applications. It doesn't cover much on the process. Pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Rubber Technology and Manufacture by Blow and Hepburn; Jim White has also published a number of books on rubber technology.

As you mention polyurethane I presume you are dealing with recycled crumb from vulcanized rubber, principally recycled tires. If so, have a look at some of the downloads you'll find on the UK's WRAP website, One we used when I was involved with granulated/powdered recyclate specs is Waste Tyre Case Study: Moulded products - from vibration mats to barricades. There is a section on the moulding operation. If you want elementary info on rubber moulding methods in general try the James Walker Elastomer Engineering Guide, also in the UK, and find the list of downloads.

GrahamBennett and Stancom, thank you! Stancom, you have given me a lot info to read, and I'm learning A LOT. I really appreciate it!

(And yes I'm dealing with recycled crumb from vulcanized rubber)
