I am having a terriable time locating some C1020 carbon steel plate for a Job. I need 12 pieces .625 x 14.0 x 22.0. My machine shop has tried all his contacts. Even a name and number of a manufacturer would be great to see if there is some sort of shortage. The only problem is that it has to be U.S. made material.

Thanks

If 1018 would do, you can get a piece 5/8 x 14 x 36 from MSC, stock# 03913225 @ $278.54. MSC does not state the country of origin for this part.

1018 will be more widely available from large distributors like Earle M. Jorgensen, Ryerson, etc.

If this is to be supplied as hot rolled (for use in a weldment for instance) then you might consider substituting (with permission of course)ASTM A572 Gr50 (50KSI min yeild HSLA carbon steel) as an alternative. It can be welded using the same procedures as A36. 1020 is generally not available as plate. I'm not saying you can't find it if you look hard enough, but it is not going to be common.

1020 is standard hot rolled steel. 5/8" is listed in Ryerson catalog and I would expect to find it in any steel supplier's catalog. Maybe there is some temporary industry shortage?

Well my supplier finally came up with some it seems that there is a shortage. We called MSC and they only had one piece and could not locate any more from their supplier. But thanks for all the help.

Thanks
Dale
