Help retrieving patterns in NX5

I've used NX3 for a couple of years now, and whenever we wanted to apply our custom title block to a drawing, we retrieved it through Format --> Pattern --> Retrieve Pattern.

However, I recently switched to NX5, and the "Pattern" option doesn't appear in the Format menu. Is this a glitch, or is it possible my bundle doesn't include support for patterns? I thought it was a basic part of NX, but I guess I'm not so sure now.

I searched the forums for an answer, but only saw this thread: thread561-57305.

Any ideas?

What release of NX-5?

Under NX-5.0.5.3 I'm seeing Format>Pattern>Retrieve Pattern just where one would always have expected to find it. Certainly it was greyed out until you enter the drafting application, but I can see no reason why you wouldn't be able to access it.

While you're at it though just make sure the UGII_PATDIR is set in the ugii_env.dat file.

What I did to find it is:

Help > Command Finder > Pattern

Then you should be able to find what you need.

I am really not sure where it is located on a tool bar or pull down.

hudson888, I'm running NX 5.0.0.25 on Windows XP SP3. How can I check that the UGII_PATDIR is set in the ugii_env.dat file?

jerry1423, unfortunately it's not that easy for me...there's no "Command Finder" option in my Help menu.

I can't help but feel that something is missing.

Go to your Help pull-down and then 1/2 way down the list is "Command Finder"

One way to do this is, while you have a session of NX running, go to...

Help -> NX Log File

...and when the syslog comes up in the listing window, go to...

Edit -> Find...

...and type in UGII_PATDIR and hit return.

We're also on XP 32Bit SP3.

The file lives under the installation directories in a sub directory called UGII so something like...
C:\Program Files\NX-5\UGII

You may need read and write permissions from your system admin to check or make the required changes.

Upgrade to a later version of NX-5 ASAP because that very early release was not the best of the bunch later versions have a few extra features and several bug fixes. We have not experienced or heard of any downside to taking the upgrades so I'm sure it would improve your situation.

Certainly my NX-5.0.5.3 has the command finder and going back to NX-4 it was not featured so it may have come into being later in the NX-5 upgrade cycle.

jerry, I've attached a snapshot of my Help pull-down...no "Command Finder".

Like I said...I feel like something simple is missing from my install.

hudson, I do plan on upgrading ASAP. I just have to find the time to do it.

20 minutes with no reboot required is all that it takes. Anyone with a password to GTAC can download the upgrade file.

Thanks to everyone who contributed in this thread. I upgraded to 5.06.3 this morning, and my problem has been solved. Both the "Command Finder" and "Patterns" options are now there.

tedepe, you've solved your problem, but my guess it was the same as mine was. I run 5.0.0.25, and Patterns was one of the things that I couldn't find in the menus even though I had turned on the Advanced with Full Menus role. I had to go to the Customize menu and find it that way, then add it to my Format menu.

I know I should update, for various reasons, but it's not up to me. There are higher powers involved. ; )
