Just tried to create a joggle on a surfacic flange. I received an error message saying that both my plane and my surfacic flange 'are involved in an update cycle'. What does this mean, and how can I get my joggle to work?

An "update cycle" error message means that there is a loop in a family/child relationship between geometry.

CATIA V5 likes to have all the Part Body geometry sequential, with parent features positioned first in the tree, and children features positioned lower in the tree below their parents. The "update cycle" error means childred features are higher in the tree than their parents, and CATIA is unable to update the part.

This error happens alot when featues are re-ordered in the tree.

Try isolating the plane, or redefining the plane as an offset from the Axis System. Or use the Parents/Children tool to try to understand where the loop is.

Thanks.
My plane was nested, so I made an isolated plane instead and it worked out.

I ran into an additional problem but managed to solve it.
The plan was to create an offset a plane from the xz plane, then rotate it and make my joggle on the rotated plane.
The joggle didn't work on the rotated plane, but worked on the other plane and again I was getting 'update cycle' error.

Turns out the axis I had drawn to rotate my plane had snapped onto another flange. Managed to fix the problem by redrawing my axis from the origin. These 'update cycles' can be tricky when you're not double checking where you actually are creating your objects to begin with.
