Help with B18 and ASTM Nuts and Bolts 1

Am I correct in the assumption that B18.2.1 and B18.2.2 refer to the physical size of the nut and Bolt but not the mechanical properties (Tensile Strength etc), and that ASTM A193 Refers to the Mechanical Properties but not the physical size of the nut and bolt.
And do the standards refer to each other?

ASTM A193 references the following ASME standards:

B18.2.1 Square and Hex Bolts and Screws
B18.2.3.1M Metric Hex Cap Screws
B18.3 Hexagon Socket and Spline Socket Screws
B18.3.1M Metric Socket Head Cap Screws

You are essentially correct, B18 for dimensions, A193 for material and mechanical properties.
