Hello people,
In around two weeks time i will begin my second year higher national certificate cousre in electrical/electronic engineering. I am currently seeking a good quality and above all helpful reference book on PLC's to help me through this course. If any body has any ideas on a particular book they would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance yours faithfully,
Ben Dawson

Please see FAQ731-376 for tips on how to make the best use of Eng-Tips.

Omron have a free software package, for programming cpm series PLCs. You can build a PLC ladder on your computer and the help function explains each operand quite clearly.

If you do not understand something, build it and it becomes obvious as to how each function operates.

The principles are the same for all PLCs. Omron agents often have a loan PLC kit with input and outputs already connected. Maybe you can borrow one of these.

Thanks for the info

In the OMRON website there is pages of PDF files to be downloaded which are better for begining to learn a PLC.
The programming is made for very simple and I found it easy to programme with.
