Hi everyone
I am trying to simulate the process of excavation and backfilling with different backfill material. I created two sets of elements using the ELCOPY command and assigning each set the corresponding material properties. Then I deactivated the copied set which represents the backfill soil. After I tried to remove the elements which represent the excavation of the elements. Then I activated the copied elements.
What I observed that in the step where the original elements should be present not the copied ones some of them have stress values other elements in the same set are not existing. This looks weired to me because I did the activation of the element in a separate static general step after the deactivation where I deactivated all elements in the model.

If anyone has faced this problem before or know how to fix such mistake his help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
I am not really sure that I completely understand your problem. However, I know that the model change can be somewhat tricky. For example if you want to remove some elements in one step then I advice you to have a dummy step prior to this step where you add those elements.

Step1 (dummy step)
add elements I want to remove in step 2
end step

Step 2
remove the elements
end step

I am not sure this will help you with your problem but it seems that you might have some problem that I think might be solved by this trick.
