I like to have my models look like the finished product, including the paint with appropriate keep-outs. In Solidworks you can make a "split line" which splits a surface/face, such that you can grab outside the split line and it acts as a separate surface than inside the split line. Then you can color the two "new faces" different colors. In ProE I've tried cosmetic lines and surface intersections, but they don't work or have other problems.

See attached link. I had to fake this in ProE by doing a .001 extruded cut, but I don't want to send that way to a machine shop. And it would be a hassle to suppress the cut just to create an IGES file for them.

Info: I am using ProE Wildfire 3.0 Date Code M180

Thank you,

Erick

You can do a few things;

1) Make a surface on the model and apply a color or decal to that surface. Then place the surface on a Layer and Blank. This will not affect machining.

2) Make an assembly of the part and apply all features, like cuts or surfaces and colors in the assembly level. Just give the actual part to the machine shop. They will never know!!
