im a computer tech for a small company and my boss, in order to make us look more productive, began using autocad for some of our work, since im the only comp tech here, it became my job to do it, and im not doing to bad, but i do have a major problem. autocad is refusing to see the outer walls of the building. i need to have the outer wall in the prints, according to cad, all the layers are turned on,, does anybody know why and can u tell me how to fix it.

Could be a few things:

1. - The layer could be on but set not to print.

2. - Could be the color settings do not show well on your
printer. Try a different color for the layer or check the color settings in your print setup (.stb, .ctb files).

3. - Is your plot settings set to limits and your wall is outside of your limits?

I hope this helps.

thats just it, its not showing up on the monitor or printer, i cant find it. it was there, i saved it, went home came back, opened it and it was gone.

Ok,
1. - Could you have saved it under another file name?

2. - Check your C:\windows\temp file for a .bak file saved
around the time you where working on the drawing with the walls. Rename it as a .dwg file and open it to see if it has the walls. Also check your working file directory for a .bak with the same file name and rename that to a new name with the .dwg extension and see if that may have your walls.

3. - I'm sorry to say this but you might just be screwed.

Also look for files with the .sv$ & .ac$ extensions
and rename those to .dwg files and hopefully one of these will have what you want.

This may be waaaaay too simple, but check to see if your Outer walls are on the Defpoint layer, by any chance.
(Defpoints, if you didn't already know, doesn't show up on prints. By design)

Is there a way to reduce the "Jaggies" (stepped appearence of diagonal lines in Acad14?

the wall laryer could also be frozen, just thaw the layer and it should appear

Could the walls have been an external reference that was moved or deleted after the drawing was shut down. Use the command XREF to open the external reference manager to see if any are listed there.

If any are listed check the status column to see if they say "Not Found". If this is the case find that file and place it in the path location listed in the Saved Path column. Reload the external reference by highlighting it and selecting Reload on the left. Or you can just reload AutoCAD.

Diagonal lines that look jaggy in 800x1200 (was it?) monitor resolution, become smooth with higher monitor resolution. I mean in Windows settings.
