hex shaft coupler

What's the application? Pushing, pulling, rotating? What load, what RPM, what environment? More data will yield more useful responses.

The application calls for aligned zero offset axial connection of 40in-lb at 2000rpm to 3000rpm.

Regular tape or glue probably wont work. I thought of making a coupler by filling up a steel tube (with square cross section) with epoxy and inserting the shafts into the epoxy but I am not sure if this will be strong enough.

The web site unfortunately only lists hex shaft collars, not couplers.
 
40 in-lb at 3000 rpm is 1.9 horsepower. Your shaft sizes seem small.

Can you use a standard round shaft coupling then put in a roll pin?

A 5/16 socket spanner with a 1/2" square drive? Push together and fill with araldite?

Improvements will probably suggest themselves.

Drill a 23/64 hole in the 1/2" shaft, push in the hex shaft and fill with araldite again......or silver solder....or roll pin.

Hi All,

Can you thread the shafts and just go to a machine shop and ask for a custom coupler nut with the 5/16 thread and 1/2 thread in this coupler.

Use a Ruland, Browning, or Maurey ½" solid coupling, maybe replace the short set screws with longer screws, may have to make an adaptor for the hex side
 
if you can use the machined "double-d" end on the shaft why can't you use a square end machined on that shaft? If so, you could make a chain coupling using components from G&G manufacturing:

Look at the OEM section for sprockets. They have square bore and hex bore sprockets. Hopefully you are aware of chain couplings and the rest of this concept is fairly academic.
