Hey
where can i find some theoric formula for maximum steam velocity in carbon steel pipes

limited by what? Pressure drop? Erosion? Noise levels?

There are two contemporary reference sources that I am aware of..... They both reference a much older "rule of thumb" contained in a manual by the Crane company:

The two references are: 1) The Piping Handbook by Nayaar
2) Crane Technical Paper #410; "Flow of Fluids"

To properly size a carbon steel steam pipeline you must know:

- Steam properties - Saturated or superheated conditions ? Design temperatures and pressures.

- Approximate length

- Acceptability of "wet steam" at the termination

Generally speaking, steam piping is sized by limiting the calculated velocity between maxima and minima based on the piping material.

Special rules exist for sizing steam piping adjacent to control valves in order to limit noise.....

A superb discussion of the subject here:
