HFO circulation

On board ships the HFO is circulated over the engine. What is the main reason for this circulation. Cooling, and if yes of what? Or for controlling?

I know that the viscosity is measured, and that the heaters are controlled to heat the HFO and so obtain the correct viscosity for injection. But the circulation factor of the HFO is a requirement of the engine manufacturer. Why are in some cases such high circulation fcators used?

Many of the manufacturers want constant circulation of the HFO to assure it maintains a constant viscosity and to prevent drop out of heavies and contaminents.

HFO can do some strange things at times, especially if is residual fuel, it gells, drops out waxes, gets pockets of aromatics, and sometimes generates hard deposits in low flow areas and fittings. So keeping it hot and moving minimizes those problems.
