Hi everyone.

I started a new job last month using SolidWorks 2010, I went through the tutorials and I'm now getting accustomed to the software. Previously I used Solid Edge for 6 years so of course I have a lot of habits coming from this experience and I'm sorry If I use the wrong vocabulary.

One of the main things I'm having trouble with is working on a part in the context of an assembly. I know I can set the display to have the other parts show as transparent or not but I would rather only have a button that could show or not the rest of the assembly. Those who know Solid Edge will know what I mean when I say that I'm looking for a button similar to Hide previous level. The only thing that I found so far is the option to isolate the part before going into editing but for that I have to choose before the editing and not after and also it would be usefull to be able to toggle between the show and hide state easily while working on the part.

Any ideas???

I hope this makes some sense.

If you don't want all other parts to show, why not open and edit the part separately?
For what you want to do, I only know about isolating the part or hide/transparency the other parts.

Hi! Ctopher thanks for helping out.

I could and I do open the part separately from time to time but there are occasions when I want to see the parts from the assembly and then hide them quickly to speed things up on my laptop while editing only the part. If I open and close it takes too much time. If I work in transparency mode it takes a lot of resources out of my video card so I would rather only hide them.

Thanks

Hi Pat ... welcome to the light side! Or is this the dark ... I can never remember. [smile]

I'm not familiar with the Hide Previous Level option of SE, but not being able to Isolate after the fact is an annoying limitation. The ugly workaround is to right click the part (or Ctrl+select multiple parts), and then select Invert Selection > Edit > Hide > Current Display State. However, that workaround can be refined by adding a keyboard shortcut to supplant the Edit > Hide > Current Display State steps.

Hi CorBlimeyLimey

Right now I find myself more in the dark but I'm pretty sure after a while it's going to get brighter! :)

Thanks for the workaround I'll give it a shot.
