Where are high pressure (15ksi max) fittings in sizes 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch used in petroleum recovery, refining and chemical processing, and what specifications are customarily applied? ASME/ASTM? MR0175? MR0130? What applications are there outside of the petrochem industry? What specs apply in these instances? Is the safety factor of 4x used in all these applications? The current product is in 316 stainless; are there other alloys that would extend the applications/markets for this product? If there are any user or engineering specialists who would be willing to discuss this with me directly, I would appreciate hearing from you.

API 6A Wellhead Standard goes up to 30,000psi. As pressure rating goes up, material strength requirement goes up, so for most 10K flanges/valves the material must be 60ksi SMYS. Cold worked 300 series would not be used and annealed is not strong enough.

The wellhead mfgs have semi-offical historical guidelines from the 6A standards committee for small dia fittings like 1/4" and 1/2" that fit into the larger valves and flanges. These guidelines indicate when small dia fittings can be made out of 300 series, but its not easy to find these guidelines.

For more info talk to a reputable wellhead supplier like Vetco, Cameron or FMC.

Grampi - Thanks! Any ideas on where to find these "semi-official historical guidelines", besides going to the wellhead suppliers you mentioned? Or are they proprietary to the suppliers?
