high purity n-Butane pricing 2

Dear all,

I am trying to figure out market prices for high purity n-Butane prices as a part of potential forward integration of my company. We are studying oportunities of selling high purity n-Butane as aerosol propellant to the cosmetics industry.

Does anybody know current price levels or where to find current high purity n-Butane price levels? And does anybody by any chance know what the biggest players in the American market are?

Any hint will be greatly appreciated.

What level of purity, quantity and pressure?

My analyzers require ultra-high purity carrier gas. The air quality board requires high purity calibration standards. These would be sold in DOT cylinders. Depending upon the application you might find specialized gasses sold with inpurities from 0-100 ppt, 100 ppt to 100 ppb, 100 ppb to 10 ppm, 10 ppm to 0.1%, 0.1% to 10% and 10% to 100%. Some standards use "research" purity as 99.9999% pure with specified maximums for the other components. Ultra high purity might be 99.999%, pre-purified 99.998%, VOC free, vehicle emission zero and acid rain grade nitrogen are 99.9995% pure, high purity is 99.99%.

What type of analyzers are you speaking of? I suppose you use the n-Butane solely for calibration, right? I am curious to learn about this application!

How much of high purity n-Butane do you use per year per analyser on average?

Right now I cannot think of a requirement for high purity butane. I think that some processes require iso-butane at some higher than average purity.

We apply analyzers such as process gas chromatographs and physical property analyzers for many refinery and petrochem applications. Butane is among the standards that can be used for Ried Vapor Pressure. In this case only a constant RVP is required. However, butane is a component used in many applications. Thus, a calibration gas mix may contain certain levels of components with an inert (sort of) balance such as nitrogen. Certain levels are specified. However, whatever level is found in the gas mix lab is used for validating the analyzers.
