We are evaluating the use of high-speed ASD motors for use as centrifugal compressor drivers. A sister facility has installed 2 x 3500 HP @ 11,000 rpm in a similar application. The drives were manufactured by ASI/Robicon and the motors by Ansaldo. They have performed very reliably for the past 10 years. Our current applications calls for 4800 HP @ 14,300 rpm. We have space limitations necessitating that we consider this particular approach...among other alternative solutions.

We know that Siemens/LDR (formerly ASI/Robicon) can manufacture such systems. We are seeking additional sources worldwide....USA, Japan, UK, etc....and would be grateful for the names of other companies manufacturing similar systems.

Thank you for your help.

Best regards,

Tom

In that arena the playing field gets very narrow. I'd say you may be limited to ABB and Toshiba as the only true alternatives. GE is a possibility if you can find the exact right person who knows anything about their offering (no easy task at GE), but I believe the VFD will be a Toshiba anyway. Yaskawa used Robicon in that size range, or did prior to the Siemens buyout, so I don't know the status of that any more. Alstom / Cegelec possibly, but they too have been going through breakups and reorganizations so who knows any more.

jraef,

Thank you for the leads.

Kind regards,

Tom

Well, that's why I thought they deserved a mention, it's just that here in N. America it's difficult to decypher what they offer any more. No cohesion of marketing efforts.

Robicon was/is so dominant in the large MV drives business here that others have a tough time making a go of it unless they already had a decent product base.

Motorspert,

Thank you for the lead on Alsthom. Looks like they're worth having a chat with.
