Hipot testing of Phase to Phase in BLDC Motors?

A basic question - can hipot testing of phase to phase be done in a 3 phase BLDC motor? Is surge testing more approriate for phase to phase testing?

A bldc motor stator should be same as a 3-phase synch machine stator or induction machine stator

If you have 3 leads available, you can't separate the phases and hence can't perform a phase-to-phase hi-pot. If you have 6 leads available, you can separate the phases. Typical test would be A to B/C/G, B to A/C/B, C to A/B/G.

This tests both phase-to-phase insulation and phase-to-ground insulation. It does not test turn-to-turn insulation.

Surge testing tests primarily turn-to-turn insulation.

Either of these tests is potentially destructive and should only be done after you pass an insulation resistance test. Obligatory safety comment - Since high voltage is involved, should only be done by qualified people.
