Historical Pipe Materials

Hello,
I have original design plans for a sanitary sewer collection system built in 1987 that lists a pipe type that I am not familiar with. Unfortunately, I don't have access to the design specifications. The callout is for "TV-5P" sewer pipe. There are also callouts for "TA-3P" stormdrain pipes. From visual inspection, the material appears to plastic.

Does anyone have ideas on these callouts? Manufacturer's specs would be particularly helpful; however, a product name would at least give me a start.

Thanks for your time.

Just because a certain pipe was specified does not mean that material was installed. The contractor may have substituted another material.

Check the pipe material. Sewer pipe typically has the specification stenciled on the side.

Who built the sewer, DOT? A town? private developer? Do the plans say what specs they were following? Quite often state and local agencies have their own designations for certain items.

Looks very much like a pipe type designation in a company pipe spec.

Maybe V for PVC and A for asbestos?

Follow the trail on the plans.

Thank you for the responses everyone. I'll keep digging (not literally) and see if I can track down more construction documentation.

Asking around for an old timer who has some knowledge of the installation (repairs) or digging (literally) up a section to inspect the pipe will probably be more fruitful than chasing paper. More than likely, the pipeline will have the material of construction stenciled on it.

Talk to the people responsible for pipe maintenance. In my time with a Mpls. Sewer, the maintenance people know the most about pipes, conditions and even water tables.
