Howdy thar partners.
I've been asked to evaluate Medium voltage Hitachi Electric Induction Motors.
If you have had good experiences with them please share them with me.
My Conclusions thus far is that they are pricey but dependable; they have not been well accepted due to poor marketing, not due to their quality; they have good name value due to their prowess in power Generation and steam turbines. Their sweet spots may be in the verticals and hp's above 1500. Good two pole manufacturer for stiff shaft designs.
Way too pricey when including an API 541 standard.
Are these valid conclusions, in your opinion(s)?

Much thanks in advance. I would love to hear from you all.

I haven't seen them anywhere except in specialized applications. The most noteable I am acquainted with is on Mitsubishi printing presses. These are really big units like for printing newspapers. When you are printing almost round the clock, 7 days a week, you can afford a poor motor.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Thanks for the input friends.
I appreciate the sarcasm by Lewish.
I'm sure printing companies will pay for reliability to minimize downtime. That's a good sector to look for testimonials.
I've had nothing but great responses from various end users.
A lot of Boiler feed water pumps and vertical turbine pump applications (High thrust).
No one has had any real issues.Interesting and encouraging.

Hello Inrush,

Although I cannot specifically comment on the quality of Hitachi MV motors I was given a tour of the Hitachi plant for LV motors some 3 years ago and must say that I was very impressed not only with the product being produced but also with the facility.

Pricing and lack of marketing effort appear to be the two main reason we don't come accross Hitachi motors more often.
