HOLE POSITIONING USING ANGULAR DIMS??

Hello,

I'm having a problem getting the holes I create on UG to depend parametrically on the Datums I use for placement references. It seems that the holes will not change location if I modify the datum angle by 180 degrees and the holes keep the same position.

This Is driving me nuts more than UG usually does. I think that the only way to fix this problem is by putting in twice the datums that I currently add which I'd rather not do.

I know that UG has the ability to position holes using angular positioning dimensions but I haven't been able to create one and I've spent some quality time trying.

not knowing the hole parameters, maybe it is moving holes but since 360-180=180 and 180-180=0 , then you have holes that will fall right where the other holes were and this way you can not see any movement. Try moving your datum plans 135 degrees and see if the holes move. If they do then probably what I wrote is right.

Depending on the geometry the hole is going into, you can sketch a point which is positioned using angular dims, then drop the hole onto the point in the sketch using the point to point constraint.

I normally control the placement of complexly placed holes with a sketch or a projected sketch but the place I'm contracting at uses planes as reference for holes with point on line "Plane" and distance dim.

I just want to know if anyone has ever used angular dimensions in Edit Positioning dialog that is shown after creating the hole? I've never been able to do so because the functionality seems very old and might not even work.

If you use point on line "Plane" and rotate the plane 180 degrees, it is still the sam line and the hole will not move. If you are using a distance dim with the point on line, try using a negative value for the distance dim. This should work for "perpendicular" distance dims, I don't know about the others.

Hey Mike,

What the heck are you doing over there? It's Jason M. If you are placing hole positions properly, your holes should be moving when you change the angle of the datum. There must be a missing or mis-positioned positional reference that you are using to prohibit your design intent. Check your reference positions.
