Hole Wizard - locating with centerlines 1

I am pretty new to solidworks, but have been around CAD packages for a while. I'm using SW office professional 2006. When i use the hole wizard, i cannot locate a hole (the center point) on a centerline sketched within the hole wizard command. I can place a point on a centerline drawn in a separate sketch, but that makes the heirarchy of my drawing kinda messy. I also cannot place a point on the intersection of 2 crossing centerlines. What's the deal? Do i really have to snap a dimension to every freakin hole that's not in a pattern? Something is seriously wrong with this "wizard".

Add the hole wizard. Edit sketch of hole, move point to location.

Something is seriously wrong with this "wizard".

Maybe on your machine, but not on mine. I have no problem placing points as you describe.

Check to ensure the Selection Filter is not blocking your choices.

Also when placing a point at an intersection of lines, you will need to carefully watch the cursor icon to note from "on-line" to "intersection". The change is very subtle and could easily be missed, and is in need of improvement, but it does not constitute a "seriously wrong" comment ... but it could be applied to your attitude though.

well, that works, but it's still an extra step. i hope in 2007 you can just create a point on an intersection of 2 centerlines. Wouldn't that be about 1000x more intuitive?

I have no issue with creating the point exactly in the intersection. When i click okay to exit the hole wizard, i get this error message:

"Points to locate holes are not valid.
They may not be constrained or may be located on edges or vertices"

Of course it's on a vertex- how else should i locate a hole?

sorry if my irritation is coming through on these posts, but it seems like such a no-brainer feature.

adampunch ... Which method of using the HW are you using?
i.e. "Pre-selection" or "Post-selection".
Check the Help file for hole wizard > Pre-selection and Post-selection.

I'm guessing you are using the "Post-selection" method which creates a 3D sketch and you cannot constrain a 3D sketch to a line.

I find it much easier to use the Pre-selection method.

that totally clears things up. i had no idea there are two methods for using the hole wizard. I have been using the post-selection method (without even knowing it) and it has been driving me up the wall.
