The question I had that i hope someone could help me with is the company i work for puts all of our templates on a network drive so everyone is pulling the same files. I wanted to do this with th hole wizard file also. We use many custom thread sizes and it would make it easier then configuring each persons files. Would anyone know hoe to to this?? We use 2004.

You can change the location of the "Calloutformat.txt" file to your server. That file contains all the ways you call out your HZ holes in the Drawings.

The Database I think your wanting to move is the Default.mdb file. If you move that file to your server SW will just replace it with a new one (tried it myself). That file is located under your Solidworks Directory /data

I don't think this file can be moved because it seems hard coded into SW. If you can find some path in the registry that points to this file. Maybe changing that path might get it to work, but I have never seen a path similiar to that.

What you might be able to do is copy the "Default.mdb" file to a central location, so that other users can insert it into their "SolidWorks/Data" folder.

If you have an IT person, perhaps they could develop a macro which which would copy the file from a designated "keeper-of-the-master-file" to every users computer on a regular basis.

bt,
In 2004 the Hole Wizard data is combined with the Toolbox data in the SWBrowser.mdb file. Even if you do not have Toolbox or SW Office there is a Toolbox.ini file, where you can change the data location.
You can edit that file to change the data folder from the local drive to a mapped drive or other network shared location. Note that the path is to a folder that is 2 levels above the actual location of SWBrowser.mdb, and you will have to match that directory structure on your remote server.
The easiest way to create the correct directory structure is to reinstall one of the stations, and during the installation carefully point the Common Data to the desired mapped drive. You can then also copy Toolbox.ini from that station to the others.
Once you have an SWBrowser.mdb on the shared drive, you can use Tools-Options-[System Options]-Data Options-[Edit Standards Data] to make a custom derived standard and in there make Hole Wizard data changes or additions that everyone sharing the common data source will see.

Thanks DesignSmith!

One of the reasons I was still holding off on 2004 was our highly modified Hole Wizard .mdb's. I will set this up on our trial machine and when it works I will finally feel safe going to 2004. Thanks again!
