Does anyone know a specification reference for hollow bars accepted by ASME VIII div 1 for temperature up to 350°C (660°F). I need hollow bars with outside diameter 230 mm (9.05") and inside diameter 140 mm (5.5") in carbon steel.
Thanks

Yes. ASME SA-369 Specification is for forged and bored pipe material - carbon and ferritic alloy steel. We have used this specification to order special wall piping, where the material is forged, bored and machined to size.

Did you know any vendor in Europe ?
Original spec requires A106 B or C with the exact dimension of O.D. 8.75" and thk of 1".

No, not off hand. I am sure that if you conduct a web search, you can find a qualified pipe supplier. The ASTM A 106 Pipe Specification can be used as well, but you will need to special order, which is the reason I had suggested using SA-369. This not standard pipe.

I don't find ! No way ! neither for A106B, nor for SA-369 !

Could you consider an SA106 8" Sch 160 (8.625" OD x 0.906" thk) pipe with an external weld buildup (and machining if req'd) to come up to 8.75" OD? This might be cheaper than a custom forging. The Code considers weld buildup to be equivalent to the parent material in at least two places: Shell course thickness transitions (3:1 taper) may be achieved through weld buildup, and opening reinforcement area may be provided on the shell or nozzle or fillet weld by weld buildup. A final argument would be that weld buildup is considered an acceptable repair.

Don't forget about the 12.5% tolerance on thickness, but if you UT the pipe you'll probably find that the actual thickness is much more uniform. Although more difficult, it might be possible to weld buildup the ID if necessary.

Can you enlighten us as to why the client requires such a specific (and not generally available) OD and thk?

jte,
not client it our standards in US but it had to be built in Europe.
I need bar with this dimension because I use it as a flange (I put a blind flange on it)and it facilitate a lot the work.
