Can any one please suggest me at what height should I opt for a hollow pier? Currently I'm working on preliminary design of bridge with 131ft and 200ft tall piers. I made assumptions of cross section of hollow pier based on the literature in 'Bridge Engineering Handbook by Wai-Fah Chen and Lian Duan' from bridge that have been constructed. I am in need of literature that discusses tall hollow pier's design in detail.

Thank you

Attached are plans for a bridge in WV with hollow piers. FWIW, back in the late 80's a firm I was with also did a bridge there with hollow piers, upwards of 250-300' (can't remember). Unfortunately I don't have a set of plans.

About 9 years ago I worked on a design-build tender for a cable stayed bridge. The approach spans had hollow piers upwards of 150'. I 'll see if I can locate the drawings.

You're welcome. I'll look through my files to see what else I have.
