Hello all,I have a problem that is not related to work in anyway but bothers me for 10 mins every morning.

The drain in my shower is corroding quite badly. The house I'm living in is 4, maybe 5 max, and yet the drain is almost in need of a replacement. We are the second occupants of the house and previously this shower was rarely (never?) used.

When looking at it, it is covered in a layer that looks like oxidized copper, and other parts that are a dark brown. I assume it's made of stainless steel, and around the edges it looks like a plating has been chipped off. None of the other showers have any similar problems.

Can anyone tell me what might have caused this? I used to think it was just a detergent I used, but then they should all be corroded like this. I do not know why this is happening, and other than 10 mins every morning I never think about it.

If it is chipping then it must be platted. Cr or Ni plating on copper or brass.
If none of the others look this way I would mark it up to defective parts.
Though trust me, there are many houshold cleaners that are murder on metals. Everything should be rinsed well after cleaning.

Corrosion, every where, all the time.
Manage it or it will manage you.

I have noticed similar incidents where corrosion appears as a dark brown, but I have never seen greenish color of the copper being oxidized. I would have to think that hsa to be some contaminant...like a cleaner.

Just an update, I took the drain out and most of it was made of copper. Which explains the green color. I can't tell the exposed face is just copper that's been plated.
