shows Honda's new offset crankshaft design.

This might be useful for other purposes where the crank shaft power output bearing must take high radial loads or the second shaft itself could be used as output.

Crankshafts able to take radial output loads are not very common especially vertical shaft and mid horsepower.

The offset appears to be driven by packaging requirements and a desire to keep the C.G. close to the transom pivot for ease of tilting.
 
And the gears will put a radial load on rear main anyway - though it will depend on the gear ratio, gear pitch, etc.
