Hi im a highschool senior applying to suny maritime academy and university of N.O
For marine engineering and naval architecture. I know I want to work on boat design and my question is if I was not to be accepted to these programs would an ocean engineering degree do the trick for me. The other question I had was after college would like to become an officer in the united states marines or navy I would very much like to become an officer in the marines but they don't have an officer role that really works with boats and I was wondering if after 4 or 8 years of service if I was to leave the corps and try getting a job in marine engineering would I habrve hard time?

> You're not going to be an officer unless you graduate from a military academy.
> Being in the Marines or Navy and marine engineering are EXTREMELY disparate pursuits, and being in the Navy or Marines will in no way qualify you to do engineering, unless you already have an engineering degree, say from the US Naval Academy at Annapolis. Once you graduate from the Academy, it's possible to get an assignment that involves managing engineering contracts, but it's unlikely that you'll be doing engineering yourself. However, if you're willing to go into management, then that might not be that bad a path.

Of course I can. I can do anything. I can do absolutely anything. I'm an expert!

Im hoping to do rotc an officer commisioning program through college while getting a marine engineering degree. After graduation I would be commisioned as an officer but my question was after being in the marines for 8 years when I get out would my degree still have value even though I received it 8 years ago and have not been working in that field

A degree is forever, but don't expect wages commensurate with 8 yrs of experience. If you haven't exercised your academic degree in the intervening time, expect to be challenged with pointed questions.
