Perhaps a classic situation: I have 500 delrin housings with a small set of molded-in initials of an ex-client. This was done as a courtesy, and of course the rest is history, as is the client. Our parts and tooling by the way.

So being cheap enough not to scrap some good housings, I am looking for a way eliminate the 3 letters. I tried a quick machine job, but the slightly convex shape makes that look a bit cheesy. I am thinking of perhaps a hot stamp - basically branding the housing with a blank stamp or an appropriate set of letters. Delrin, a great material, is quite anti-social when it comes to sharing electrons in its shells, so fillers/epoxies will not work. Any suggestions?

Yes, I see your point. It would be nice to be able to sell the finished product though. Your idea does hit on something - perhaps I was trying to be too careful, and that we should go ahead and drill the thing out, then plug it with something, perhaps a new logo made out of a second piece of material.

Take 'em to a shop with a CO2 laser engraver, and "etch" a new logo over the old.

DJ,

Where are you located? bt's suggestion of lasering over the current initials is a good one, and I can work with you to do just that if you have an interest.

Are you spending more time/money on a solution to remove the lettering to avoid scrapping that you would just to fill/remove the lettering from the single mold and run another batch? Probably.

We are in Seattle. The letters are about .125 inch high, but stretched sideways a bit, with a 3/4 in. wide total for the 3 letters. Let me think about that one - as I look at it, its not clear to me how overwriting with a laser will look any good, unless you can actually erase the leeters. Remember, they are molded in, not embossed. Thanks.

mcgyvr - of course I am.Thats not the point. Being stubborn, now thats the point.

Thermal treatments of acetal tend to produce a lot of formaldehyde gas with the severe consequences on the local environment and workers health. Just regrind the parts. Acetal regrind runs quite nicely unless it has been miss handled.
