Can anyone tell me if someone makes an hour meter that has an alert function built into it? I want to install these on our machinery so that we do preventive maintanance when needed - not too soon, not too late.

Thanks

Not come across a standalone version. Depending upon this week's corporate policy, disabling of a ‘local only’ annunciator may, in some cases, lead to short-term ‘nag’ fixes.

If available, a routine written into DCS/SCADA/PLC systems may be appropriate. For varying degrees of criticality under a slash-and-burn maintenance budget, a pre-alarm followed by later equipment shutdown may be appropriate.

Back in about 1980, I was looking for this, and the computer guru advised me he could track hours on major equipment, easily. A month or so later, I found that the hours were going backwards ! hence no alarms. I then had simple hour meters put on the equipment and tracked the hours. If in the intervening 23+ years, computers have learned to count up, your problem is presumably solved.
p.s. It was in a cement plant

jraef,
That was a great link.
Have you used these?
Are they reliable?

Yes, as I said above. It is sometimes a bit tricky to find a stocking distributor, and the Alert function is an option that few of them keep in stock, but the factory has been very accomodating. I used them on crane travel controls where they were subject to heat, vibration and shock. No problems.

Thanks

That looks like exactly what I am looking for. I am still amazed at the difficulty in finding such a simple product.

Comment: The posted link may be an exclusive manufacturer. Therefore, it is necessary to input correct key words in the browser.
The Alert feature is based on a programmable timer count-down. I just posted the principle not the complete product (hour meter or time totalizer), which appears to be an exclusive product by Redington.
