How can I create a solid volume model from an .igs/.sat surface model?

I have segmented a stack of CT images to create a 3d model. I will be doing some FE analysis on the model but would first like to edit some of its geometrical features in solidworks first. Can someone tell me the best format to do this please? I have exported it as both an .igs file and .sat file (both surface models) and attempted to convert it to a full volume model in both solidworks and abaqus with no luck. any advice is much appreciated?

SimpleWare's ScanIP is made for creating geometry and meshes from CT images.

If you already have surfaces you could make a stack of sketches in SWx using 'intersection curve' to bring the cross section into the sketch. If you want to edit the geometry I would change this geometry to construction. Then trace as you see fit. From here a boundary solid will likely work in creating your solid.
