I have to calibrate the penalty stiffness using convergence of maximum compressive and tensile stress in the grout.
I am working with a grouted joint model, which consists of three hollow cylindrical models as shown below:

I have trouble understanding how penalty stiffness relates to the maximum compressive and tensile stress.

That’s unusual form of convergence study but it means that you should adjust penalty stiffness until it stops influencing stress results significantly.
