how can I select a part in assy when axis' are on?

In an assembly I am trying to select a part, to move it, and the axis' are turned on. When I try to select a surface, or face of the part, the axis' keeps getting selected. I turned the axis' off and this condition goes away, I could then select edges, surfaces, and faces. By the way the filters are not active when I'm having this problem.

What happens when you activate filters for faces or surfaces?

It works then, but it does it make sense that axis' ends up as the default with no filters on?

whoops, I replied to soon. It doesnt work when I put on the surface filter.

Are you looking at the part in wireframe?

Just curiuos because I have had trouble selecting/moving parts sometimes when they are in wireframe.

Shot in the dark here.

Do you have "Allow selection in wireframe and HLV modes" and "Allow selection in HLR and shaded modes" checked on?Under Tools\Options\System Options\Display/Selection

Try unchecking and see if you still pick the axis.

Also make usre under View that "Temp axis" and "Axis" is unchecked.

I agree, I have no idea where SW comes up with it's Selection order...and it's often not the one you want. Have you tried RMB, "Select Other"? It's a pretty handy tool.
