I have a 1500 watt mazak STX-48. I am cutting 1/2 ms and my edge is wavey but pretty clean on the bottom. I have raised my focal point .08 inches I am using a 1.5mm tip with a 5" lense. This is my pierce & cut program

What should I try to clean up the edge? I tried to lower the assist gas but got bad results from that. I tried to lower the power but got bad results. Would changing from M69 to M67 or M68 help? I don't know to much about the pulse mode and what it does? Any help whould be great !!!!

Thanks

Do you have a test square program to try different cutting conditions and focal points on a scrap piece of 1/2 ms? Is your lens clean? Simply cleaning a lens or replacing an old or pitted lens will clean up a cut. A 1.5 mm tip maybe too narrow. Try something larger. Make sure beam is properly centered through tip. I am not familiar with Mazak lasers, but from experience with many other lasers, 1500 watts is pushing the limit with 1/2" mild steel. Your beam will need to have a good mode and good power to achieve a decent edge on 1/2" plate. You could try to cut with 80-90% pulse rate at your present feed rate or slightly slower. It may help.

You may want to try using a 7.5" Focus Lens and a 2.5 mm to a 3 mm single or double nozzle as well. This may give you the result you are looking for. The 7.5" Lens is made for thick plate or thick material applications. The 5.0" lens is good for thin materials up to .250" thick.

Good Luck
