How do I convert bi-directional rotating energy into a single direction?

I have a rod that fluctuates axially back and forth approximately 30deg. I want to take that input and produce an output that constantly rotates in a single direction.

The only example I've been able to find is the Kobalt Double Drive screwdriver. Seen here:
I'm certain there is a special name for that type of gear set, but I cannot find out what it is.

Any ideas? Thanks

DanteBlake,

Can you attach two gear drives, each through a ratchet? Obviously, you will not have constant speed.

30deg does not describe linear axial motion. Linear motion converted to rotary motion is very common with slider/piston-connecting rod-crank shaft. It has been used in steam locomotives to race car engines. Perhaps you are refering to something else?
