I am making a plat map for school, and was wounder how I find out the area of my lots. In acreas or feet. They are irgular shapes, I am sure I could find out how to do it mathmatically. But I was woundering if autcadd could do it easier some out.

If you don't have an enclosed polyline, you can use the AREA command and pick points around the perimeter. The better approach would be to have a closed polyline around the lot, then use LIST or AREA command. To quickly create a polyline around a lot, use the BPOLY command. If your drawing units are feet, area will be reported in square feet.

MrCivilDrafter,

I agree with CarlB. It has always worked for me.

Follow this tip:

PEDIT then select one of the lines, select option JOIN.
TOOLS: enquiry; area. Just follow the instructions at the command line. That should give you what you want.

If you are running 06, just double click on the pline. In the properties box, there is a parameter called "area". Just read it, it works with open or closed polygons.

But, to be technically correct it should be closed first. Again, in Properties, go to Closed. It will say "yes" or "no". Just change "no" to "yes", and it will close. The area will not change significantly, if it was nearly closed before.

Remember: The Chinese ideogram for “crisis” is comprised of the characters for “danger” and “opportunity.”

A "cheat" (if the lines have no "leaks") is to hatch the place you want and then list the hatch. It should give the area.
