How do I minamize regeneration time? 2

I have created a part using Pro/e 2000i2.This part is basically 60 inches in dia, 5/8 thick, with random protrusions around its perimeter. The design has 2024 3/4 dia holes thru it, with 1/32 chamfer on both sides. The hole pattern is a cluster of three holes 1.00 inch center to center in the 'X' direction, and .866 inch in the 'Y' direction offset by .50 inch in the 'X' dir. Each row and column has a different number of holes do to the parts outer configuration.
I created these 2024 holes by patterning the first hole in each row, adding the chamfers, until I had one quarter of the 60-inch dia filled with chamfered holes. I then copy/mirrored using a horz default datum plane. This gave me one half of the 2024 holes. I then copy/mirrored these 1012 holes using the default vertical datum plane, this gave me all my 2024 chamfered holes.
NOW FOR MY PROBLEM!
Using a 1.8 GHz P4, w/1.5 gig of Ram and Qutro4/750 graphics card, it takes five plus hours to regenerate this model after making any changes to these holes.
How can I reduce the regeneration time?

My favourite way to mirror symmetrical geometry in Pro/E is to create a surface copy (solid surfs), followed by a surface > transform (mirror), followed by a surface merge. By the sounds of it, you should be able to create a quarter of the disk with the holes patterened in it. then create the first surface transform and merge to create a half moon, and create a second surface copy, surface transform and merge to create the whole disk.

this method is particularily good for fast regeneration speeds. also, the surface copy (solid part) allows you to accurately and efficiently copy over features with limited regeneration time...

It has many answers to your question. The pro/user article mentioned will also help.

Did you pattern the chamfers with the holes? You could save work by using a refernce pattern. Create a chamfer on the first feature of the pattern and then go to patten, reference pattern. It will add the chamfer to all the features in the first pattern.

One method that can be used is to change the holes to read only this will reduce the regeneration time however, this method works only if the design is fixed and is not going to change.
