How do I model Pumps in Solidworks

I already have specs for a pump and I'm trying to get some experience by doing some modeling work for my brother-in-law while finishing up college.

Currently, I'm having problems designing the actual pump body for a recessed impeller vortex pump as can be seen on the homepage at If anyone can give me some starting points as to how to draw this in Solidworks that would be great. I started with drawing an increasing radius arc and it works great until I get to the point of putting the outflow tube on and then I run into problems. I'm stumped on how to get this pump drawn with the empty cavity in the middle, and have the entire thing be all one unit.

Thanks in advance!

This is a question for the solid works forum, not this forum.

Try asking the same question there, you'll get a better response. No disrespect to the people who frequent this forum, it's just that modelling pump volutes is more about modelling than it is about pumps.

I'm not sure which one is applicable for you as I don't use SolidWorks so you might want to browse through some of the posts to see which better fits your needs.
